Portuguese wine exports have demonstrated a notable uptick, reaching a total of 447.6 million euros in the first half of the current year, indicating a 3.9% increase

compared to the same period in 2022, as revealed by data from the ViniPortugal association.

ViniPortugal's press release stated, "During the initial six months of this year, wine exports amounted to 158.3 million liters, with an average price of 2.83 euros per liter."

This performance represents a surge of 3.4 million liters in export volume, a rise of 16.8 million euros in value, and an elevation of 0.05 euros in the average price, all in comparison to last year's corresponding period.

Of particular note, the data highlights a substantial expansion in wine exports to the UK, with a growth of 13.3 million euros, Brazil with a 6.1 million increase, and Angola with an uptick of 4 million euros.

When excluding Port wine, exports have seen a volume increase of 3.2 million liters, indicating a growth of 2.44%, and a value augmentation of 12.2 million euros, reflecting a 4.9% rise. Concurrently, the average price per liter has ascended by 0.03 euros (1.61%) in comparison to the same period in the preceding year.

Brazil's noteworthy surge of 6.3 million euros (a 22.52% increase) and Angola's 3.9 million euros in exports (a 24.24% rise) stand out in this context.

Frederico Falcão, the President of ViniPortugal, attributed the observed growth between January and June to an escalation in available natural resources and a certain stabilization of external markets after the commencement of the conflict in Ukraine. Falcão emphasized that the average wine prices are rising, and Portugal is gaining recognition as a significant producer in the markets it serves.

"We have exceeded expectations in terms of growth, and we believe this momentum will continue, leading to robust results for the entirety of 2023," Falcão expressed.
