Spanish fashion giant Inditex, owner of the Zara brand, has announced plans to open the world’s largest Zara store in Antwerp. The new flagship location will be housed in the Meir Corner
building, currently under construction on Antwerp’s main shopping street, Meir.
The Meir Corner project is taking shape on the site of the former Proximus building. While part of the space will be used by the Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences and Arts for a new campus, Zara has secured the commercial portion for its new store. Spanning 14,500 square metres over three floors, the store will offer an expansive shopping experience.
“This is great news for Meir and for Antwerp as a fashion destination,” said Nicolas Beausillon, CEO of real estate firm Tans Urban Landmarks, in a statement to VRT NWS. “Zara is aiming to establish large-format stores in major cities around the world, creating unique in-person shopping experiences to complement their online presence.”
Zara already operates a large store on the Meir, but opted to relocate to the Meir Corner project after reviewing its potential. “When Zara saw the plans for the new building, they decided to move there,” Beausillon explained.
The building is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026, with Zara aiming to open its doors shortly thereafter.
