Switzerland saw a sharp rise in digital crime in 2024, with cases surging by 35% compared to the previous year. Authorities recorded more than 59,000 cyber-related offences over the course

of the year.

According to the latest crime statistics released on Monday by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), over 90% of these incidents fell under the category of cyber-economic crime. Particularly alarming was the spike in phishing attacks, which increased by 56%, and the misuse of online payment systems, prepaid cards, and stolen identities, which more than doubled—rising by 105%.

Since the FSO began tracking digital crime in 2020, the number of reported cases has more than doubled. In total, police recorded over 560,000 offences under the Swiss Criminal Code in 2024—an overall rise of 8% from the previous year.
