Poland's population saw a decline to 37.6 million last year, reflecting a decrease of nearly 130,000 from 2022, according to the latest estimate released by the country's statistics office.
The nation witnessed its lowest number of births since World War II, with just over 272,000 live births recorded nationwide—a drop of nearly 33,000 compared to 2022, as reported by the Statistics Poland agency on Monday.
Conversely, the number of deaths saw a decline to around 409,000, marking a decrease of 39,000 compared to the previous year, according to the same source.
Women comprise almost 52 percent of the country's population, with 107 women for every 100 men, as per Statistics Poland's data.
The average age of a Polish citizen was nearly 43 years old last year, as reported by the statistics office.
In 2023, approximately 146,000 marriages were registered across the country, indicating a decrease of almost 10,000 compared to 2022.
Meanwhile, the number of divorces among married couples decreased, with almost 57,000 divorces recorded last year—roughly 3,000 fewer than in 2022. Additionally, about 600 couples separated, according to Statistics Poland's findings.
