Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city, has been named the top European destination to visit this autumn by European Best Destinations, following its recognition as Europe’s best culinary
destination in 2023.
According to the portal, Maribor is a must-visit for travelers seeking an authentic European experience, complete with unique human connections, rich culture, and scenic discoveries in the heart of Europe.
Known for its warm hospitality, Maribor hosts numerous international cultural and sporting events throughout the year. The city’s most famous attraction is its historic vine, believed to be the oldest in the world.
Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Pohorje Mountains, which offer year-round opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, skiing, and adrenaline sports.
Wine enthusiasts will be particularly drawn to Maribor in autumn for the St. Martin’s Day festival, Slovenia’s largest wine celebration, where the season’s new wine is unveiled. This year, the festivities run from November 8 to 11.
