French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Azerbaijan on Thursday for its military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh but emphasized that it is not the appropriate time to impose sanctions on
Baku.
Speaking at a European summit held in Granada, Macron affirmed that the stance of the French government is accurate, even though Azerbaijan perceives it as favoring Armenia. He added that Europe should not rush into imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan for its offensive to gain control of the separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Macron suggested that European leaders should engage in ongoing discussions with Azerbaijan to find the most effective ways to protect Armenia, rather than immediately resorting to economic measures.
He stated, "France does not have an issue with Azerbaijan, but it appears that Azerbaijan has concerns related to international law."
