Jan Jambon, Flemish minister-president, plans to convene a summit in Antwerp during Belgium's European Union presidency next spring. This summit aims to promote a more influential role
for European regions and will include leaders from select strong regions. The event is scheduled for April 18, commencing with a reception at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. While the attendees are yet to be confirmed, Elio Di Rupo, minister-president of Wallonia, will be among the participants.
Jambon's objective is to actively engage regions in European decision-making during the EU presidency, noting that many European regions are eager to increase their influence. Additionally, he calls for a review of existing cooperation agreements concerning Belgian representation in the EU to ensure regions have a significant voice in matters pertaining to their competences.
