The governing council of European Athletics, based in Chorzow, Poland, has announced that the first edition of the European Running Championships will be held in Ghent and Brussels in April

2025. This new championship will feature the European Championships in the marathon, half marathon, and 10 kilometers.

The European Running Championships will encompass the prestigious European Championships in the 10-kilometer, half marathon, and marathon events. Among the final contenders to host the championship were Leuven-Brussels and Frankfurt.

Following presentations from both delegations, the board of European Athletics made the decision to award the hosting rights to the Belgian candidature, with all races concluding in Leuven.

The concept of the European Running Championships was introduced in April, aiming to create an inclusive event that allows participants from all backgrounds to compete. This open event will provide an opportunity for recreational runners to join alongside the elite European athletes in any of the three disciplines.

The inaugural European Running Championships in Ghent and Brussels will undoubtedly showcase the passion, dedication, and camaraderie of the running community, while highlighting the vibrant cities of Belgium as hosts of this prestigious event.
