During the summer of 2024, PKP Intercity saw unprecedented growth, serving over 23 million passengers across Poland. The most popular routes connected major
cities to top tourist destinations, including the seaside towns of Kołobrzeg, Koszalin, Międzyzdroje, and Władysławowo, as well as the mountain resort of Zakopane.
PKP Intercity spokesman Maciej Dutkiewicz highlighted that each summer month brought new passenger records:
"On average, 250,000 people traveled on our trains daily. In June, we served over 7 million passengers, marking a 14% increase compared to the previous year. In July, the number rose to almost 8 million, a 12% year-on-year growth."
August alone saw over 8 million passengers, prompting the carrier to introduce additional services.
"In our summer schedule, we operated 454 trains daily—31 more than in the same period in 2023. This increase allowed passengers to comfortably reach popular seaside and mountain resorts. To meet demand during weekends, festivals, and cultural events, we introduced 98 additional connections," Dutkiewicz explained.
To handle the surge in passengers, PKP Intercity employed nearly 2,500 train managers and around 1,500 train drivers during the peak summer season.
