Yesterday, heavy storms caused severe damage in Bavaria. Bad Bayersoien in Upper Bavaria was particularly hard hit. The Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office declared a
state of emergency for the town with around 1,300 residents today.
According to the authorities, 80 percent of the buildings in the town were severely damaged by storms and hailstones measuring up to eight centimeters. No people were harmed, they said. In order to officially request emergency personnel from other districts, a state of emergency was declared.
Emergency roofs were reportedly requested for the municipality, which will be transported to the town from all over Bavaria. "The end of the operation is not yet foreseeable, and the local forces still have some difficult work ahead of them," said District Administrator Anton Speer.
Injuries During Beer Tent Setup There were injuries during the setup of a beer tent in Kissing near Augsburg: Six people were slightly injured and six seriously injured, the police said. The tent was hit by a gust of wind. Around 30 people tried to hold it down. In addition, the roof of a senior citizens' home was blown off, and around 100 people were evacuated to safety.
The police reported pedestrians who were injured by hailstones. An elderly lady fell due to the hail. Hailstones were shoveled off sidewalks with snow shovels. The emergency personnel were also busy with many flooded basements and fallen trees. Some trees fell on parked cars, others on power lines, causing outages.
