On Saturday afternoon, supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a coalition of Iranian opposition organizations, groups, and individuals abroad,
gathered outside the Iranian consulate in Brussels to protest. The demonstrators called upon the United Nations, the European Union, and its member states to urgently intervene and pressure the Iranian regime to halt the arrests, torture, and executions carried out by the "criminal Ayatollah regime," according to Mehdi Nobari, spokesperson for the NCRI.
The European Union expressed strong condemnation on Friday regarding the execution of three men in Iran who were accused of involvement in the protests sparked by the murder of Mahsa Amini. In a statement, the EU condemned these executions and reiterated its call for the Iranian authorities to immediately cease the deplorable practice of sentencing protesters to death.
The three men, identified as Majid Kazemi, Saleh Mirhashemi, and Saeed Yaghoubi, were found guilty of moharebeh ("war against God") and possession of a weapon during protests in the central city of Esfahan, as reported by the website of the judiciary's information agency, Mizan Online. The men were arrested in November and sentenced to death in January.
The protest movement in Iran has been fueled by the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, who passed away on September 16, 2022, three days after being arrested by the country's morality police for violating the strict dress code imposed on women.
