The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (RMFAB) are gearing up to launch the "Imagine!" exhibition on February 21, 2024. In collaboration with Paris's Centre Pompidou, this exhibition
commemorates the 100th anniversary of Surrealism's inception.
Visitors embarking on this artistic journey will traverse the 20th-century Surrealist movement, encountering renowned figures such as Max Ernst, Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, Dorothea Tanning, and Joan Miró. The museum promises an "immersive exploration of Surrealism," delving into themes like dreams, labyrinths, metamorphosis, the unknown, and the subconscious.
The RMFAB has joined forces with international museums like Centre Pompidou in Paris, Hamburger Kunsthalle, Fundación Mapfré in Madrid, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art for this grand exhibition.
Featuring over 130 artworks, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, assemblages, and photographs, each partner museum will display a core selection, highlighting its unique heritage. In Brussels, the RMFAB will showcase these compelling works.
The institution emphasized Surrealism's significance in Belgium's cultural landscape and its broader implications within the European context, particularly as Belgium prepares to preside over the Council of the EU in 2024.
