The leader of Poland's governing conservative party has announced that pensioners across the nation will receive an extra cash boost of approximately EUR 500 this year.
Jarosław Kaczyński, who heads the Law and Justice (PiS) party, made this declaration during a harvest festival held in the central village of Paradyż on Sunday, as reported by the state news agency PAP.
Kaczyński, who also serves as the deputy prime minister, detailed that this additional support, referred to as the "14th pension," will amount to PLN 2,200 (EUR 490). He clarified that pensioners receiving up to PLN 2,900 (EUR 650) per month will receive the full benefit, while those with higher pensions will receive proportionally smaller amounts.
Speaking to the gathering, Kaczyński emphasized that the "14th pension" is now an established yearly cash supplement aimed at assisting pensioners with their living expenses. He encouraged citizens to participate in the upcoming nationwide referendum on various issues, including illegal migration, as well as the parliamentary elections, both scheduled for October 15.
Meanwhile, Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg revealed that the government intends to distribute the "14th pension" for the year 2023 in September. She stressed that the government's approach to senior citizens is rooted in "intergenerational solidarity," encompassing both financial assistance and activation initiatives.
Maląg highlighted the importance of adequately caring for the elderly, affirming that "the 14th pension" and a similar benefit known as the "13th pension" collectively represent substantial government backing aimed at ensuring the financial stability of seniors.
