Poland's government spokesperson, Piotr Müller, announced during a press conference in Warsaw that Poland has achieved the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union, coupled with
a rapidly growing economy attributed to the government's policies, according to Polish Radio's IAR news agency.
Müller highlighted that Poland's unemployment rate stood at 2.7 percent in April, the lowest among the 27 EU member states, on par with the Czech Republic, as reported by the EU's statistics agency, Eurostat. In 2015, the unemployment rate in Poland was 7.9 percent, marking a significant decrease over the past eight years, with registered jobless individuals dropping from 1.8 million to 822,000, as stated by tvp.info.
The spokesperson emphasized, "Poland's unemployment rate has shown consistently positive trends over an extended period... According to Eurostat, we have the lowest jobless rate in the EU, along with the Czech Republic." Müller attributed these figures to the government's effective policies that provided financial support to businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges stemming from Russia's aggression against Ukraine, including energy-related coercion.
Müller also highlighted that the financial support extended by the government enabled Polish companies to preserve jobs and experience growth, leading to highly positive GDP indicators. Referring to data from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the spokesperson stated that Poland's economy grew by 3.8 percent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, outperforming China by almost double the growth rate and surpassing the Group of Seven (G7) countries, the world's major advanced economies, by a factor of 13, as reported by tvp.info.
Additionally, during the press conference, Müller reiterated Poland's opposition to the EU's proposed migration package, which includes mandatory relocation of migrants among member states. The government spokesperson expressed concerns that the EU's plan would inadvertently encourage human traffickers to continue smuggling people illegally into the EU territory.
Poland's remarkable achievement in reducing unemployment rates, coupled with its robust economic growth, showcases the effectiveness of the government's policies and reinforces the country's stance on migration policies within the European Union.
