Eleven Belgian beers have been recognized at the World Beer Awards, an international competition held in England. Among the winners, two Belgian beers secured top spots in their respective
categories: Jupiler 0.0 from AB InBev was named the best non-alcoholic beer, and Boon Millésime Oude Schaarbeekse Kriek took first place in the sour beer category.
Brewery Boon, known for its lambic and geuze production in Lembeek, Flemish Brabant, also saw its Oude Geuze Boon awarded as the best geuze. Belgian beers, in general, were particularly successful in the sour beer category.
Sosab Flemish Red Ale XII, from Brew Society in Kortrijk, was named the best Flanders red ale, while Queue de Charrue won in the oud bruin category. In the fruit lambics category, the apricot lambic from the young Dilbeek brewery Kestemont emerged as the top choice.
AB InBev also received two additional awards: one for its Leffe Brune 0.0 and another for its Fruit Défendu in the strong dark beer category. Cuvée Clarisse, a whisky-flavored beer from the Wilderen brewery in Limburg, was recognized as the best spirit-flavored beer. Additionally, two "double" beers stood out to the judges: Tongerlo from Haacht Brewery and Dominicains from the 3F Brewery in Frameries. Photo by Gordito1869, Wikimedia commons.
