In 2022, forestry exports in Portugal reached an all-time high of 7.1 billion euros, marking the second consecutive year of growth, according to a statement by
Biond – Association of Forest-Based Bioindustries. This remarkable achievement significantly contributed to a trade balance surplus of 3.3 billion euros.
Pulp and paper emerged as the standout products that drove the surge in forestry exports, accounting for over 3.8 billion euros in international sales during the same year, representing 54% of the total.
Gonçalo Almeida Simões, the General Director of Biond, which represents prominent companies like Altri, The Navigator Company, DS Smith, and Renova, emphasized that the forest-based bioindustry is playing a pivotal role in reshaping various sectors of the national industry.
