On Labour Day, Flemish minister-president Jan Jambon emphasized the positive economic indicators in Flanders, including the region's high employment rate. Despite
social problems and challenges, Jambon highlighted that Flanders has much to be proud of and should focus on positive elements.
He noted that Flanders has an employment rate of 76.7%, which is higher than Wallonia and Brussels, and above the EU average.
Jambon also highlighted that work remains the most sustainable way out of poverty and that the risk of poverty or social exclusion in Flanders has fallen to 11.2%, which is lower than Wallonia, Brussels, and the EU average. Looking ahead, the Federal Planning Bureau forecasts that the Flemish economy will continue to grow in 2023 by an estimated 1.3%. Photo by Geert Renckens, Wikimedia commons.
