Flemish Minister for Home Affairs, Bart Somers, has found twelve mosques in Flanders to be under excessive foreign influence, with three of them in danger of losing their recognition.
All twelve mosques are Diyanet mosques with strong links to Turkey and have been found to violate the Flemish recognition decree against foreign influence.
The three facing suspension proceedings have 30 days to defend themselves, after which Somers will make a final decision on their recognition. The other nine have received warnings and must meet the requirements by November 15th. The consequences of losing recognition include losing government funding and foreign ministers of worship being unable to obtain work and residence permits. Photo by Armineaghayan, Wikimedia commons.
