In May 2024, house prices in the Netherlands surged by almost 9% compared to the same month a year earlier, with a monthly increase of 1.1%, according to the
latest data from the national statistics office CBS and the land registry Kadaster.
The CBS reported that house prices have been on an upward trend since June 2023, hitting yet another record high in May 2024. The average price was 1.8% higher than the previous peak recorded in July 2022.
May also saw a notable increase in transactions, with 17,591 homes changing hands, marking a rise of 16.5% compared to a year ago. In the first five months of 2024, nearly 78,000 homes were sold, reflecting a 14% increase from the same period in 2023.
The average price for an existing home now stands at €445,430, as reported by the CBS.
The estate agents organization NVM is set to release its updated analysis of the housing market on July 4. NVM's figures are based on sales reported by its member agents, while the CBS data includes finalized deals registered in the land registry listings.
