Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, now serving as Recruit Alexandra, has commenced her year-long military training with the Engineer Battalion in Brigade Nord.
While the young royal began her training last week, the media in Norway were granted access this Wednesday to witness some aspects of her training.
During Wednesday's session, Princess Ingrid Alexandra received instruction on the various components of a firearm and learned how to disassemble and reassemble it. When asked if she had any regrets about choosing the Engineer Battalion, she responded, "I have no regrets."
Lieutenant Colonel Bjørn Kråkstad, the Battalion's Commander, expressed pride in the princess's choice, stating, "We are very proud that the princess has chosen the Engineer Battalion." He added that he hopes she will find fulfillment in her year of military service.
The future queen will undergo training at the Battalion's headquarters in Øverbygd, situated in Indre Troms, alongside approximately 800 soldiers and 200 civilian employees. Over the year, Princess Ingrid Alexandra will receive fundamental military training and be expected to perform various tasks independently. Company Commander Hågen Vangsnes emphasized that she "has to wash the floor, tidy the room, make the bed, and attend classes. We have the same expectations of her as all other soldiers."
Following the initial recruitment period, the Court revealed, "The Princess is assigned a service position and completes a professional period with more specific education, followed by a departmental period of training and practice."
Before Princess Ingrid Alexandra's training, there was speculation about the name on her badge, considering the Norwegian Royal Family's absence of a surname. She is simply referred to as Rekrutt Alexandra.
In anticipation of her 18th birthday in 2022, Princess Ingrid Alexandra familiarized herself with various units within the Norwegian Armed Forces. Last June, the Norwegian Royal Court announced her 12-month assignment with the Engineer Battalion.
