A bewildered woman was discovered inside the Royal Palace in Brussels on the evening of Tuesday, as reported by Het Nieuwsblad. The Brussels public prosecutor's office has confirmed the
incident, though the means by which the woman gained access to the palace remains unclear.
"On the night of January 16 to 17, 2024, federal police officers, stationed near the Parc de Warande, encountered a 46-year-old woman within the confines of the Royal Palace," stated Yasmina Vanoverschelde, spokesperson for the prosecutor's office.
The individual exhibited signs of confusion and was taken into administrative custody by the police. Subsequently, the Brussels public prosecutor's office was notified, leading the magistrate on duty to initiate a process for mandatory psychiatric admission. The woman was subsequently hospitalized under this procedure.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, the woman was discovered asleep in a bed within one of the furnished apartments within the palace. An investigation by the public prosecutor's office is underway to determine the circumstances that allowed her entry. The Royal Palace has refrained from making any official statements on the matter.
