Poland has welcomed approximately 20,700 new arrivals from Ukraine in the past 24 hours, as reported by Polish border guards on Wednesday. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February
24, 2022, over 17.1 million people have crossed into Poland from Ukraine, according to the Polish Border Guard agency. In the same period, more than 15.3 million people have departed from Poland to Ukraine. On Tuesday alone, about 19,000 people crossed from Poland into Ukraine.
Poland's President Andrzej Duda previously stated on Polish Radio that the country is estimated to be home to around 3 million Ukrainians, including those who arrived before the war. The Polish presidential office reported in March that approximately 1.3 million war refugees from Ukraine were staying in Poland, with many choosing to relocate to other countries or return to Ukraine.
In March of the previous year, Poland implemented measures to provide extensive support to Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion, offering residence rights and ensuring access to education, healthcare, and social benefits. A recent survey indicated that 57% of Poles support the acceptance of refugees from war-torn Ukraine.
