A coordinated operation by European law enforcement agencies took place on Wednesday morning targeting the notorious Italian mafia group 'Ndrangheta. The operation, led by Europol and
Eurojust, aimed to bring down the group's illicit activities, including money laundering, tax evasion, drug smuggling, and fraud.
Several countries were involved in the operation, including Italy, Belgium, France, Portugal, Romania, and Spain. The majority of the arrests, out of 108 warrants issued, were made in Italy, with nine in Germany, six in Belgium, and three each in France, Portugal, and Spain.
The 'Ndrangheta, which originated in Calabria, Italy, but has expanded its operations abroad, is one of the most powerful criminal organizations in Europe. The operation sends a strong message to organized crime groups that law enforcement agencies are actively working together to disrupt their activities. Photo by euobserver, Wikimedia commons.
