Sweden has expelled five Russian diplomats for carrying out activities that are incompatible with their diplomatic status, according to the country's foreign ministry.

The ministry did not specify the nature of the activities involved but stated that the Swedish security service had warned of Russia's continuous engagement in intelligence gathering in Sweden.

The move follows similar actions taken by other countries in response to Russia's intelligence activities. Last year, Sweden expelled three Russian diplomats, while this month, Norway expelled 15 Russian embassy officials. Many countries have raised concerns about Russia's intelligence activities, with Sweden's security police identifying Russia as a significant threat to the country's security as it seeks membership in NATO. Russia has not commented on the development. Photo by Holger.Ellgaard, Wikimedia commons.
