On Friday, the European Commission announced that it would extend anti-dumping tariffs on stainless steel fittings from China and Taiwan for five more years and
expand them to Malaysia. The Commission conducted a review of the measures and found that lifting the tariffs would have resulted in continued dumping in the European Union market, which is worth around €100 million ($111 million) annually.
The duties, which have been in effect since 2017, also apply to stainless steel tubes and pipe fittings. The extension to Malaysia was necessary as Chinese producers were found to be using assembly operations there to evade applicable tariffs. The tariffs for Taiwan range from 5.1% to 12.1%, while for China, they range from 30.7% to 64.9%.
The rate for imports from Malaysia is set at 64.9%. However, two genuinely Malaysian producers, Pantech Stainless and Alloy Industries and SPI United, will be exempt from the measures.
