Following the publication of Sovereign Ordinance No. 11,219 on 7 May 2025, which appointed the members of the Monegasque Language Committee, the group has officially reconvened at
Lycée Rainier III. The meeting took place in the presence of Mr. Lionel Beffre, Minister of the Interior, and Mr. Jean-Philippe Vinci, Director of Education, Youth and Sport.
During this inaugural session, Ms. Eliane Mollo was elected Chair of the Committee, with Ms. Dominique Salvo chosen as Deputy Chair. Ms. Isabelle Albanese, the coordinator for Monegasque language teachers, was appointed Secretary-General.
To guide the renewed efforts of the Committee, three specialised sub-committees have been created: one dedicated to grammar, another focused on vocabulary and the dictionary, and a third tasked with promoting and disseminating the language. The Committee plans to meet regularly throughout the year to advance these initiatives.
Established in 1982 by H.S.H. Prince Rainier III through Sovereign Ordinance No. 7,462, the Monegasque Language Committee is entrusted with “protecting and promoting the Monegasque language, conducting all necessary studies, and proposing recommendations to improve knowledge of the language, particularly within educational programmes.” This latest meeting marks an important step in strengthening the transmission, visibility and preservation of the Monegasque language—an essential element of the Principality’s intangible heritage.
