The brewing trade dispute between the U.S. and the European Union is heating up as former President Donald Trump threatens to impose a staggering 200% tariff on European wines,

champagne, and spirits. The move comes in response to the EU's proposed levies on American-made whiskey.

France hits back

French Economy Minister Eric Lombard slammed Trump's tariff threat, calling it an “idiotic war” and warning that the EU would retaliate in kind. He stressed that Europe would not bow to U.S. pressure and predicted a further escalation of trade tensions.

French winemakers, who consider the U.S. a critical export market, are bracing for significant financial losses, with estimates reaching up to €4 billion.
