Lithuanian publishing house Sofoklis announced on Tuesday that it is removing JD Vance’s book from sale, urging readers to support Ukrainian authors instead.
The decision follows the U.S. administration’s suspension of military aid to Ukraine.
“In response to the U.S. government’s choice to halt aid to Ukraine, Sofoklis will no longer sell Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by JD Vance, as long as U.S. foreign policy towards Ukraine remains unchanged,” the publisher stated in a Facebook post.
Sofoklis encouraged readers to support Ukraine by choosing books by Ukrainian authors and donating to the humanitarian organization Blue/Yellow.
The move comes after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the pause in military aid on Monday, increasing pressure on Kyiv to negotiate with Moscow.
Tensions escalated last Friday at the White House, where a heated exchange reportedly took place between Trump, Vice President Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
