French police have carried out raids at the headquarters of the organisers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as part of two preliminary corruption investigations. The searches are reportedly
focused on allegations of favouritism and misuse of public funds in the awarding of construction contracts. The Paris 2024 organising committee has stated that it is fully cooperating with the investigators.
These police raids add to the recent turmoil surrounding France's Olympic movement and sports in general, including the surprise resignation of France's National Olympic Committee President in May and the departure of the heads of the country's football and rugby federations amid high-profile scandals. The Paris Olympics are scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024, followed by the Paralympics in September. Photo by Kristoffer Trolle from Copenhagen, Denmark, Wikimedia commons.
