The Verdi trade union in Germany has called for a two-day warning strike among employees working in security areas at Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, and Hamburg
airports. The strike is expected to take place from Thursday until Friday and will involve personnel working in aviation security, passenger control, personnel and goods control, and service areas. The union is demanding better pay and bonuses for work on public holidays, Saturdays, Sundays, and night shifts.
Verdi is calling for the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) to present a negotiable offer in upcoming negotiations on April 27 and 28. The strikes are expected to cause delays and cancellations, with Hamburg Airport announcing that all departures on the strike days will be cancelled or take place without passengers, affecting around 80,000 people.
The strike follows a nationwide stoppage at the end of March, which saw airports, ports, buses, and trains affected. Further warning strikes are also planned for Deutsche Bahn and other railway companies in the coming days, with the railway and transport union (EVG) set to announce details on Wednesday.
