Brussels is set to debut a groundbreaking initiative this summer with the introduction of three electric carriages, marking a first in Europe, as reported by Bruzz.

The project is spearheaded by the Well Done Company, formerly known for its horse-drawn carriages. Entrepreneur Thibault Danthine, prompted by recent concerns about horse welfare, sought an alternative approach.

"The decision to move away from horses was not due to lack of demand for rides; it was driven by other factors. Challenges included finding suitable accommodations for the animals, concerns about animal welfare, and difficulties in recruiting staff experienced in handling horses," explained Danthine.

Faced with these challenges, Well Done Company proposed the concept of electric carriages to the City of Brussels. Fabien Maingain (Défi), Brussels Alderman for Commerce, highlighted the uniqueness of the electric carriages in Europe, stating, "We were looking for something modern that didn't exist elsewhere."

Thibault Danthine expressed his enthusiasm for the transition, noting that operating without horses would simplify the process for him. In the coming months, the entrepreneur will be dedicated to ensuring the electric carriages are operational in the city by summer. The retired horses, Aki, Vegas, Luka, and Aico, will be replaced by electric motors in this innovative approach. Photo by Dossid, Wikimedia commons.
