A young man sustained injuries and had to be hospitalized after venturing too close to one of Geneva's renowned landmarks - the Jet d'Eau fountain.
The individual, whose name has not been disclosed, was injured when the powerful force of the fountain's water propelled him into the air, causing him to land on the concrete surface below.
At present, the man's health condition remains undisclosed.
The Jet d'Eau, managed by the operating company, expels 500 liters (110 gallons) of water per second, reaching heights of up to 140 meters (459 feet).
According to Swiss newspaper 20 Minutes, the man, believed to be in his 20s, disregarded the barriers surrounding the fountain on Monday evening.
Initially, he attempted to place his face near the nozzle from which the water is ejected, but was abruptly pushed backwards by the force.
Undeterred, he made a second attempt and was propelled upwards by the sheer power of the water, subsequently crashing onto an adjacent walkway.
Following the incident, the man leapt into Lake Geneva before being rescued by authorities alerted by passersby. He was then transported to a hospital for medical attention.
A witness recounted, "Police officers arrived and urgently requested the Jet d'Eau be shut off so they could reach him."
SIG, the electric utility company responsible for the operation of the fountain, has expressed intentions to file a trespassing complaint against the man.
