Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has announced its plans to introduce a second night train service connecting Brussels and Berlin in December, expanding its 'Nightjet' network.

Currently, ÖBB's 'Nightjet' service operates between Vienna and Brussels. The new night train route, set to commence operations in December, will establish a direct connection between the Belgian and German capitals. Initially, there will be three trains per week on this route, with the frequency increasing to a daily service by autumn 2024.

It is worth noting that a night train service operated by the Dutch-Belgian railway company European Sleeper has been running between Brussels and Berlin since May. European Sleeper's night train operates three times a week and travels via Amsterdam. In contrast, ÖBB's upcoming Berlin-Brussels night train route will follow a different path, passing through Frankfurt and Cologne. Photo by Dining Car from Wien, Austria, Wikimedia commons.
