During their state visit to our country, fans of the Dutch royal family will have the opportunity to cheer for Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima on Grote Markt at 4:30 PM on
Tuesday. The police warn of traffic disruptions in Brussels.
The state visit starts on Tuesday at Zuidstation, where the monarchs will arrive by royal train. The royals will be received by Minister Hadja Lahbib (Foreign Affairs, MR) and then proceed to the royal palace for a meeting with King Filip and Queen Mathilde. Both kings coincidentally celebrate ten years on the throne this year.
During the visit, they will also pass by Grote Markt. In addition, other ceremonial ceremonies are scheduled for Tuesday, such as a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a visit to the Brussels City Hall, and a state banquet at the Castle of Laken. This will be followed by a visit to the federal parliament and a meeting with Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
After the royal couple visits the Climate Tech Forum in Brussels on Wednesday morning, which involves the participation of more than five hundred companies and institutions from Belgium and the Netherlands, they will continue their journey to Flanders and Wallonia.
Expected traffic disruptions The police have previously warned of traffic disruptions in Brussels. "Especially on Tuesday, June 20, traffic disruptions can be expected in the vicinity of Warandepark, Paleizenplein, and Congresplein," says the Brussels police. "We therefore ask you to avoid this area by car between 11 AM and 1 PM. Try to use public transport or bicycles as much as possible, especially during this time frame. We also advise everyone who can to work from home."
It had been exactly seventeen years since the Dutch head of state last visited our country on an official state visit. In June 2006, it was Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands who was received by King Albert and Queen Paola. Photo by Henk Monster, Wikimedia commons.
