A study conducted by Picodi.com, a website specializing in statistical analysis, has revealed that food and non-alcoholic beverages constitute 17.5% of Portugal's expenditure

on goods and services. In a global ranking of 105 countries, Portugal secured the 30th position, aligning closely with Poland (17.2%), Greece (17.6%), and Hungary (18%).

This study highlights the significant disparities in grocery spending across nations. For instance, countries like the United States (6.7%), Singapore (8.4%), the United Kingdom (8.7%), Ireland (9.2%), and Switzerland (9.9%) allocate less than a tenth of their expenses to food and non-alcoholic beverages consumed at home.

On the other hand, Nigeria (59%), Myanmar (56.6%), and Kenya (56.1%) lead the ranking with the highest percentage of spending on food products among the countries surveyed.

In terms of European grocery expenses, Switzerland takes the lead with €325 per month, followed by Norway (€308 per month), and Denmark (€281 per month). These figures are attributed to the generally high prices in these nations.

The study notes that the average monthly grocery expenses for Portuguese households amount to €204, while the lowest grocery spending is observed in Ukraine (€98 per month), Belarus (€89 per month), and Moldova (€88 per month). Photo by 0000ff, Wikimedia commons.
