The European Commission has revealed that 32 Belgian companies have been chosen to participate in various projects supported by the European Defence Fund (EDF). The published list

demonstrates Belgium's significant involvement in these initiatives, making it one of the countries with the highest number of selected participants. Additionally, nine companies from Belgium will be placed on the reserve list.

The EDF, with an annual budget of one billion euros, aims to enhance the competitiveness of the European Union's defence industry. Out of a total of 39 projects selected for financing or co-financing by the EDF, Belgian companies will play an active role in several domains. In the field of 'Space,' they will contribute to an Earth observation program and the continuation of the ballistic missile early detection program. Moreover, Belgian companies will participate in joint combat programs in the land and naval sectors.

Beyond private enterprises and universities, Belgium's military institutions, including the Royal Military School (KMS), the Queen Astrid Military Hospital (MHKA), the Defence Laboratories (DLD), and Belgium's bomb disposal service (DOVO), will also be involved in these projects.

While research projects are funded directly by the European Union, development projects require co-financing from member states. As part of their commitment, the Belgian Defence will contribute over 3 million euros to support the participation of Belgian entities in these initiatives.

The participation of these Belgian companies and institutions underscores the country's dedication to strengthening European defence capabilities and fostering collaboration within the EU's defence sector. It represents a significant step towards enhancing the European Union's overall defence readiness and bolstering its defence industry's competitiveness on the global stage.
