In a preliminary estimate, the Dutch national statistics agency CBS reported that the rate of inflation in the Netherlands fell to 4.6% in July, showing a decline from 5.7% in June.

Despite the overall decrease in inflation, food prices continue to surge, with food inflation remaining at a high 11.6%. However, there is a slight improvement as it has come down by 1 percentage point compared to June. On the other hand, energy prices have seen a substantial plunge of 16.3%, largely attributed to a new calculation method that now considers actual prices for domestic electricity and gas, instead of new contracts.

The CBS plans to release an updated report with more comprehensive figures on August 8.

When calculated according to the harmonized EU system, inflation for July stands at 5.3%, whereas it was 6.4% in June. The variation is primarily due to the inclusion of housing rental prices in the Dutch system. Photo by G.Lanting, Wikimedia commons.
