In just one week, police in the Swiss canton of Valais stopped two electric scooters capable of speeds far above the legal limit. Both scooters were confiscated and their owners are now facing
legal consequences.
According to authorities, the first scooter was intercepted in Martigny on April 5 around 6:30 a.m. during a routine traffic check. The rider, a 24-year-old Ukrainian, was clocked at 113 km/h. The scooter did not meet legal technical standards and was tested on a measuring roller.
Just five days later, on the evening of April 10 at 7:30 p.m., a second scooter was stopped in Zermatt on a cantonal road. This one, driven by a 42-year-old Lithuanian, was recorded reaching speeds of up to 126 km/h. It too was tested using a measuring roller.
Police remind the public that the legal speed limit for electric scooters in Switzerland is 20 km/h. Riders must also follow the same regulations as light mopeds, including mandatory helmet use. Photo bob Emran Kassim, Wikimedia commons.
