Five Belgian soldiers are currently under scrutiny by the federal prosecutor's office for allegations related to denialism, incitement to hatred, and expressing xenophobic, Islamophobic, and
anti-Semitic sentiments, as reported by Sudinfo on Thursday.
The investigation was initiated in 2021 after State Security uncovered that one of the five soldiers participated in a shooting course in Poland, organized by a private group suspected of having ties to far-right associations. Communication within the group occurred through various platforms including Messenger, Telegram, Whatsapp, and the dark web, with some comments additionally shared on Facebook.
In addition to these allegations, the soldiers are also suspected of engaging in harassment directed at one of their fellow black military colleagues. As a consequence, the military has taken the step to suspend these individuals pending the resolution of the case. Unia, the Equal Opportunities Centre, has intervened in the case as a civil party.
