Copenhagen has once again secured an impressive achievement by ranking second in the global liveable cities list for 2023.
For the second consecutive year, Copenhagen has been narrowly surpassed by the Austrian capital, Vienna, in the annual rankings compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which assesses 173 cities based on a comprehensive set of indicators determining living conditions. These indicators encompass over 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five broad categories: stability, healthcare, culture and the environment, education, and infrastructure.
The concept of liveability aims to evaluate and compare the living conditions offered by different locations worldwide. This assessment serves various purposes, including establishing conventional development levels and determining hardship allowances for expatriate relocation packages. By precisely measuring the challenges individuals may face in various places, the liveability rating system enables direct comparisons.
Copenhagen excels in several specific criteria, achieving a perfect score of 100 for stability, 95.8 for healthcare, 95.4 for culture and the environment, and 100 for both education and infrastructure. This highlights the city's commitment to providing high standards across various aspects of livability. Photo by Jorge Franganillo, Wikimedia commons.
