French consumer authorities have identified five additional online marketplaces selling illicit products in France, alongside Chinese fast-fashion giant Shein, Commerce Minister Serge Papin told
Le Parisien in an interview published Friday.
According to the newspaper, the platforms cited are Wish, Temu, AliExpress, eBay and Joom.
The revelation follows a wave of public outrage earlier this month, after the French consumer watchdog reported finding child-like sex dolls and other illegal items for sale on Shein’s marketplace. The new findings broaden the scope of concern, indicating that the problem extends well beyond a single retailer.
Papin said the government intends to tighten oversight of online marketplaces and step up enforcement to protect consumers. Photo by Raysonho @ Open Grid Scheduler / Scalable Grid Engine, Wikimedia commons.
