During the 2023/2024 season, Portugal's wine production is set to surge by 10%, reaching 7.5 million hectoliters, as reported by the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV). Notably, the regions of

Azores, Lisbon, Bairrada, and Trás-os-Montes have experienced remarkable growth, exceeding 20%.

IVV's statement highlights this increase in volume, stating, "The Harvest and Production Declarations data affirm a total of 7.5 million hectoliters (hl), marking a 10% rise from the 2022/2023 campaign." Compared to the average of the last five campaigns, this marks a substantial 13% increase.

Standout regions include Azores, Lisbon, Bairrada, and Trás-os-Montes, showcasing growth rates exceeding 20%. Conversely, Verdes and Beira Interior witnessed an 8% decline in production. The report notes that wines eligible for Denomination of Origin (DO) and Geographical Indication (GI) accounted for 91% of the national production in this season.

The statement further delineates the dominance of red wines, comprising 59.6% of the total production. White wines, totaling slightly over 2.5 million hectoliters, hold a 33.8% share, while rosé wines make up 6.7%. This composition is in line with recent trends, with the "reduced impact of pests and diseases" and new vineyard plantings primarily driving the production increase.
