The former Belgian soldier, who was arrested in Norway after allegedly threatening Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, is set to be extradited to Belgium. According to several media reports, the
extradition process in Norway is currently underway, although no further details have been provided by the federal prosecutor's office. They stated, "We will communicate once the man has arrived in Belgium."
The ex-soldier had posted a video on social media on 7 July, in which he fired four shots at a picture of the Belgian prime minister. Due to his mental health issues and far-right sympathies, the federal public prosecutor's office assigned a terrorism specialist as the investigating judge on the case. The suspect also had a history of being associated with a motorbike gang.
Eventually, it was discovered that the ex-soldier had fled to Norway. He was apprehended at a shopping center in Oslo, Norway's capital, for displaying threatening behavior on the same day. Authorities also conducted a thorough search of his residence in Leopoldsburg, but no weapons, ammunition, or explosives were found. Photo by EU2017EE Estonian Presidency, Wikimedia commons.
