France is aiming to raise 500 million euros in humanitarian aid for Lebanon at a meeting in Paris on Thursday, according to a framework document from the French foreign ministry.

The conference will gather around 70 delegations with the goal of generating substantial international support for Lebanon.

"The conference seeks to prompt tangible initiatives, particularly on the humanitarian front, where France has set an ambitious target of approximately 500 million euros for international assistance to Lebanon," the document stated.

The aid will focus primarily on helping displaced individuals, with funds directed towards sectors such as health, food, water, hygiene, and education.

Lebanon, which has faced a massive displacement crisis with between 500,000 and 1 million people fleeing southern Lebanon, says it requires $250 million per month to address the ongoing emergency. The displacement crisis was triggered by Israel’s large-scale military offensive against Iran-backed Hezbollah in September.

The conference will also emphasize the need for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis, citing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Additional support for Lebanon's security forces, considered crucial to maintaining the country's unity and stability, is also expected to be discussed.
