A Jewish student was seriously injured in an attack near a synagogue in Hamburg. It happened on October 4, just days before the yearly date commemorating the Halle synagogue attack.

According to a police report, a 29-year-old man in military uniform hit a Jewish student in the head with a folding shovel near the Hohe Weide synagogue in Hamburg. The student went to the synagogue, where the Jewish holiday of Sukkot was celebrated. The victim was taken to hospital with a serious head injury. According to the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, the synagogue’s security officers arrested the attacker and took him to the Hamburg police. The newspaper called the incident an “anti-Semitic attack,” although it also stated that the attacker’s motives are unclear.
